First Day of School

The kids finally started school on Monday, August 29th.  The start of school had been delayed three days due to the tanker fire in Lincoln.  The kids didn't seem too bummed about having a few extra days of summer.  We made the best of it, for sure!

The kids woke up to balloons, a "Happy 1st Day of School" sign, and a little present from Mom and Dad.  I couldn't resist getting the kids these little pillow pet key chains to attach to their backpacks.  They had seen them awhile ago and I was waiting for the perfect opportunity to buy them and thought this was perfect.  They loved they and were so excited.  The clothes were all layed out the night before and they were ready to go bright and early.  We all went out to the school to take Grant on his first day.  We had to meet out on the blacktop where the teachers would then come find their classes.  It was a fun place to meet up with friends we hadn't seen in awhile.  I could tell Grant was nervous, but he wasn't letting on.

Grant and Jaxon, good buddies from last year.  Sadly, they aren't in the same class again!

Grant in line with his new class.  Thankfully, Grant did know a few of the kids in his class and familiar faces are always comforting.  His friends Lily, Avery, and Kammy are in his 1-2 combo class.

Grant's teacher, Mrs. Maynard

Mrs. Maynard talked to us for a few minutes and then we said our goodbyes.  First grade is going to be a big adjustment.  It will be weird to have Grant gone all day long.  I will miss him so much !  I am excited for him though and all the new things he will learn.

Later that morning, we took Loren to her first day of Kindergarten (yes, Daddy came home from work to go with us).   We were so excited that Loren was going to have Mrs. Swanson for her teacher.  Grant had Mrs. Swanson last year and absolutely loved her (and so did we).  Loren also was excited that she had several friends in her class including Kayleigh (a friend from Grant's soccer team) and Daniella and Kate from church.  Loren couldn't wait to get there and start Kindergarten.

Loren and Brandon!  Brandon's big brother Jaxon is Grant's buddy.  We were so hoping that Brandon would be in Mrs. Swanson's class as well, but he ended up getting Mrs. Fleshman, the other PM kindergarten teacher.
Loren and Mrs. Swanson
On the first day, Mrs. Swanson had the kids (and their parents), do a little scavenger hunt in the classroom.  One of the things they had to find was the class pet, Marty the Mammoth.  Loren can't wait for it to be her turn to take home Marty!

Mrs. Swanson kept with tradition and read "The Kissing Hand" to the students and their parents.  It's one of those books that always makes you cry no matter how many times you've heard it.  After she was done, Loren came over, gave us a kiss on our hand, we kissed her hand and we said our goodbyes.  It will be so strange to only have one child home in the afternoons.  My babies are growing up so fast, right before my eyes.  I'm so proud of them though and the great kids that they are.
